Real Madrid are sitting pretty atop Group B at present having beaten
both Copenhagen (4-0 at home) and Galatasaray (6-1 in Turkey) while Juve
managed only draws against the other two sides, leaving them four
points adrift of the Galacticos.
Antonio Conte's side lost 4-2 at Fiorentina on Sunday, slipping five
points behind Serie A leaders Roma while Real Madrid finally produced a
promising performance in La Liga, with the team beating Malaga 2-0 at
the weekend. Anyway, Real are not unbeatable at home, a fact proved by
their 1-0 derby defeat on home soil against Athletico.
Following his cameo appearance against Malaga, Gareth Bale is
expected to play more minutes now. So, with the exception of Xabi
Alonso, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has a full squad to choose from,
meaning Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema, who both missed the win over
Malaga on Saturday with injuries, could return to the starting line-up.
Antonio Conte has a lot of injury worries ahead of the Real Madrid
game. After skipping the match in Florence due to a missed flight (and
Conte's rules), Arturo Vidal suffered a muscular injury that could keep
him out. Defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and midfielder Simone Pepe are
unlikely to take part in this match through injuries, while strikers
Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella are also expected to miss the
match.
Cristiano Ronaldo has already scored five goals in this season’s Champions League (a hat-trick against the Danes and a brace last time out in Istanbul). The Portuguese star – who was top scorer last season with 12 goals – has now scored 24 goals in his last 20 Champions League appearances.
