Tottenham received a stern warning against complacency before the break
as they saw West Ham take an unexpected 3-0 win at White Hart Lane.
Despite this, the Hotspurs have enjoyed an impressive start to the
2013-2014 campaign under second year manager Andre Villas-Boas. The
North London side have enjoyed the form of attacking midfielder
Sigurdsson, especially in league play, and new English phenom Andros
Townsend looks to build on his impressive display for England over the
recent international break. The Hotspurs should be able to put Aston
Villa on the backfoot early on and provide ample opportunities to find
the back of the net. They've enjoyed ridiculous success against the
Villains of late as Aston Villa haven't taken a single win since
September of 2008 in any competition. Capoue, Kaboul, and Danny Rose
will all be out. Aaron Lennon returns but will likely watch from the
bench as Townsend gets his chance.
Aston Villa are currently on an unbeaten run of three league games,
having won at Norwich and memorably beaten Manchester City at Villa
Park, before being held to a scoreless draw at Hull two weeks ago.
Villa are still without long term absentees Charles N’Zogbia and
central defender Jores Okore, but there is better news on Christian
Benteke. He was on the bench for Belgium against Wales this week, and if
fit, will replace Libor Kozak.
Possible line-ups:
Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Guzan; Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Luna; Westwood, El Ahmadi; Weimann, Delph, Agbonlahor; Benteke.
Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Naughton; Dembélé, Paulinho; Townsend, Eriksen, Sigurdsson; Soldado.
