As the only competitor who are not their continent’s reigning
champions, few expected Faouzi Benzarti’s men to be the ones standing
between the favourites and glory on Saturday. Raja opened the
competition with a 2-1 win against Auckland City before upsetting
African champions Al Ahly 2-1 after extra time. Then, they were favoured
to be beaten by Atletico Mineiro - the Copa Libertadores champions
featuring Ronaldinho - but Casablanca scored two late goals to clinch a
3-1 victory and earn a place in the final. Their run comes after a
remarkable few weeks for the Moroccans, who saw coach Mohamed Fakhir
depart days before the tournament started after a run of defeats.
Bayern are without the influential winger Arjen Robben and midfielder
Bastian Schweinsteiger. n their absence, Franck Ribery, Mario Goetze
and Thiago Alcantara guided the attack of an offense that looked similar
to coach Pep Guardiola's time at Barcelona, although with more direct
passes and scoring chances. Raja Casablanca doesn’t seem to have notable
absentees.
