Borussia Dortmund cannot be happy with this season,
because they have not got in the fight with Bayern Munich for the title of the
champions, and they were not even 2nd in the end because Leipzig team has
skipped them. They were fighting for 3rd place till the last round
and they managed to be better than Hoffenheim, and they still wanted to
do better than the quarterfinals in the UEFA Champions League, where they
were stopped by Monaco, which is not exactly the European top. They
still have this Cup finals and a chance to, at least, win this trophy and
to improve the overall impression. In the semi-finals, Borussia Dortmund did a
great job, because they mastered Bayern Munich in a brilliant match after
turnover in the second half.
It is interesting that their last
defeat in the championship was exactly in Munich from Bayern Munich at the begining of April, and after that they lost both duels from Monaco in the UEFA
Champions League. In the championship they have made four wins and two
draws for the end, with a final victory over Werder team in Dortmund (4-3).
Their duo Aubameyang and Reus has taken things in their hands and solved
the question of the winner, and they are particularly pleased that both
of them are in good shape before the finals. Midfielder, Weigla will not
be able to play in this duel, while players :Piszczek and Schmelzer are having
problems, but they should take their places on the side positions.
29/04/17 Borussia Dortmund 0 – 0 Koln
06/05/17 Borussia Dortmund 2 – 1 Hoffenheim
13/05/17 Augsburg 1 – 1 Borussia Dortmund
20/05/17 Dortmund 4 – 3 Werder Bremen
This final is a big match for Eintracht Frankfurt, because this team did not have too many opportunities to win trophies in recent years, and everything that they have won in their history has been pretty long ago. In the near past, Eintracht Frankfurt had more problems with survival in the elite rank and it even happened that they get eliminated, and because of that fact, this placement in the finals was by itself a success, especially since they were for a long time in the upper part of the championship table. They lost their grid in the rest of the championship after the winter break, but not so much to endanger their status and it is clear that the team has been thinking only of this Cup final for some time.
Eintracht Frankfurt had one series of 10 matches, while, in the last 15 games, they only won once. It is clear that the Cup cannot be a justification and they are not in the best shape, however, they can shine in one match. In the last qualifying round, they close to defeat by Leipzig team at home, but they were saved with two goals in the finals, which were scored by reservist: Vallejo and Blum (2-2). That draw was a little boost after three defeats in a row, and when it comes to injury problems, players: Hasebe and Mascarella will not be able to play, while some other players are questionable, but they could still play.
