Being placed as favorite in the group, Swiss were eager to show their
worth by putting on an impressive display, but it was far from an easy
task for Ottmar Hitzfeld's men.
Ecuador put on a strong pressure
early on and that positive effort was rewarded when they took the lead
on 22 minutes through Enner Valencia.
Swiss improved their
performance after the break and got back on level terms early after the
re-start, thanks to Admir Mehmedi's close range header.
The match
got tight again after that equalizer, but it was the European side that
got all three points when a swift counter attack deep in stoppage time
was finished off with a fine goal from Haris Seferovic.
