Netherlands did manage to get themselves in front after 20 minutes from
Arjen Robben's fine finish, but within just one minute, Australia got
back on level terms as Tim Cahill scored a cracking equalizer.
After the break, both teams kept on pushing forward and it was the Asian representative that got themselves ahead from Mile Jedinak's spot kick on 54 minutes.
Netherlands were not keen on going down as they regained their composure and eventually got that equalizing goal from Robin Van Persie on 58 minutes.
Eventually, it was Van Gaal's men that came away with all three points when Memphis Depay scored the winning goal on 68 minutes.
