Netherlands vs Mexico World Cup Sunday, 29 June 2014

Netherlands vs Mexico - Competition: World Cup – Round of 16

The Netherlands are one of the big surprises at this World Cup 2014 in Brazil. They won all of their three group stage games, including the crazy 5:1 defeat of the soon ex-World Champion Spain. But they managed to stay concentrated and focused and beat Australia in a tough battle with 3:2 and in the end won 2:0 against Chile. Many expected Chile to become the number 1 in Group B after Spain was defeated. But the Netherlands had Robben, who now seems to be the best player in Brazil so far. But a loss in the next round and none of this is worth anything anymore. Mexico will have the support from the home crowd. But the Netherlands are glad that Robin van Persie will be back after his suspension. Van Persie and Arjen Robben could again become the key players. Leroy Fer who scored the second goal against Chile will miss due to an injury. He would even miss a possible quarter final.
The Mexican team was not the big favourite in Group A. There were Brazil and Croatia who were assumed to reach the round of 16. But in the end Mexico finished with two wins and one draw on the second position with seven points on their side, just as much as Brazil had in the end. They were massively supported by the crowds. Against the Netherlands in the next game they will probably have the advantage of playing “at home”. But it won’t become easy, Oranje is strong, especially their offensive with Sneijder, Robben and Van Persie. They might have the better offensive with a scoring of 10 goals so far. Mexico in contradiction only scored 4 times. But their defence is this tournaments showpiece. Brazil was desperately trying to score against Mexico but in the end had no chance against goalkeeper Ochoa. José Vázquez will miss this next battle because of a second yellow card.

Netherlands vs Mexico Possible Lineups:
Netherlands Starting XI (3-4-1-2):
Cillessen – Janmaat – Blind – Vlaar – Wijnaldum – De Vrij – De Jong – De Guzman – Sneijder – Robben – Van Persie.
Mexico Starting XI (5-3-2):
Ochoa – Layun – Moreno – Aguilar – Marquez – Rodriguez – Herrera – M. Fabian – Guardado – Gio dos Santos – Peralta.

Brazil vs Chile World Cup last 16 round - June 28, 2014

0 التعليقات

Brazil vs Chile - Competition: FIFA World Cup, Round of 16
Match Date: 28 June 2014 - Start Time: 13:00 Local - 17:00 BST
Venue: Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Brazil won Group A as expected last time out, earning them a Round of 16 berth to take on their South American counterparts, Chile. The host nation trounced a disappointing Cameroon side in their final match of group action 4-1 behind two goals from national celebrity, Neymar. The talented prodigy now has more goals through three World Cup matches than his Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi has in 10. It seems the flashy forward relishes the spotlight and the burden of expectations placed upon his shoulders, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him stamp his authority on this match here in Belo Horizonte. However, the Gold and Green will need to be alert to everything Alexis Sanchez, as the speedy Chilean brings his game to another level with his national side. They’ve been arguably one of the more impressive teams at this summer’s global showcase, and Brazilian wing-backs Dani Alves and Marcelo cannot afford a howler of a game like they are prone to every so often. Nevertheless, the fact is that Brazil have won 11 of their last 12 matches while losing just once in their last 24 contests in all competitions, and with home-field advantage and a massive motivation to succeed, the host nation should be advancing to the Quarterfinal Stage.
Chile team fell in defeat to the Netherlands last time out, 2-0. However, they had already clinched advancement from a difficult group that saw the defending champions of 2010 eliminated from the tournament (Spain). A furious, beautiful attack has led the Chileans to the Round of 16, with Barcelona man Alexis Sanchez raising his level of play on the big stage. But Chile know what they”ll get from their star forward, and their hopes lie in an admittedly suspect defence that must avoid falling asleep against the tournament favorites. Furthermore, La Roja aren’t known for sitting back and defending, so this match very well could become open relatively quickly, and the presence of Cardiff City defender Gary Medel must be felt by Brazil’s overpowering attack if the underdogs hope to pull off the upset. Chile haven’t drawn in their last 10 matches, so extra time isn’t expected here, though this summer’s World Cup has been anything but predictable. Good news comes in the form of a fully fit Arturo Vidal, who some claim to be the best box-to-box midfielder in the world, and the Juventus man very well could cause Brazil significant problems.

Possible Lineups:
Brazil Starting XI (4-2-3-1): 12 Cesar, 2 Alves, 3 Thiago Silva, 4 David Luiz, 6 Marcelo, 8 Paulinho, 17 Luiz Gustavo, 7 Hulk, 11 Oscar, 10 Neymar, 9 Fred.
Chile Starting XI (3-4-1-2): 1 Bravo, 5 Silva, 17 Medel, 18 Jara, 4 Isla, 20 Aranguiz, 21 Diaz, 2 Mena, 16 Gutierrez, 11 Vargas, 7 Alexis.

Estadio Nacional, Brasilia, Brazil  - 23 June, 2014- 21.00 UK KO

Needing a victory along with better goal difference from Mexico, Brazil put on an aggressive effort since kick off and saw that approach rewarded when Neymar opened the scoring on 17 minutes.

South Korea vs Algeria 22-06-2014 FIFA World Cup Group H

South Korea vs Algeria - Competition: FIFA World Cup
Match date: 22 June 2014 - Kick Off Time: 20:00 BST
Venue: Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre, Brazil

Koreans happily drew 1:1 in their first group game against Russia after an embarrassing save of the Russian goalkeeper Akinfeev. Before that lucky situation the Korean performance wasn’t good. However they played better and more sufficient than the Russians and not many shots on goal were seen in the first half. The second one was better for both sides. Korea even had chances to win this match but the goal by Kerzhakov (’74) burried their hopes. The final result seems to be better for the Koreans who were perceived as an underdog in that first game. Now they have another chance to prove their value. The game against well-playing Algeria will be very demanding on the one hand but on the other the opponent seems to be weaker than the Russians. At the end the Koreans have to remeber that it will be only prelude to the next game against the group leader, Belgium.
Algeria team lost their first encounter in Brazil against the group favourite, Belgium. The final result – 1:2 – doesn’t really say the truth about Algeria, who scored the first goal of the game (penalty) and have been defending very effectively for long time - against a strong Belgian team. Finally Algeria has fallen not at last because of the very well chosen Belgian substitutes – Fellaini and Mertens, who scored the belgian goals. In the upcoming game they will certainly have far better chances to get a good result but it doesn’t mean that it will be easier. Koreans managed to stop the Russians and they will be hard to defeat. Most Algerian eyes are on Sofiane Feghouli and Nabil Bentaleb who can lead Algeria to a success.

South Korea last 5 matches:

Goals: Costa Rica – Bryan Ruiz 44
Venue: Arena Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil

Italy 0-1 Costa Rica (Group D)
Costa Rica 0-1: Bryan Ruiz goal (44').

The game was played in a very slow pace since early minutes as they're not keen on making any early mistakes. After missing out several goal scoring chances, Italy found themselves in deep trouble as just before half time break Costa Rica got in front through Bryan Ruiz's header.
In the second half, Italy tried to change things around but a lethargic performance from their players made things easy for Costa Rica.
Eventually, no more goals were scored as the Concacaf side celebrate another famous win an a ticket into the knock out stage.

Switzerland vs France World Cup Group E - June 20, 2014

0 التعليقات

Switzerland vs France - Competition: FIFA World Cup, Group E
Switzerland experienced some difficulties to overcome a well organized and hard working Ecuador team. They were a goal down to Ecuador at the break but got themselves level early in the second half before a last gasp winner gave them maximum points. After that win, Switzerland look likely to make the last 16. Ecuador were their main challengers for qualification, and since the Swiss have Honduras in their final game, they should pick up enough points to progress.
No reported injuries or suspensions for Switzerland manager Ottmar Hitzfeld to contend with, so we will probably see the same players that started against Ecuador although there is a little possibility that both Mehmedi and Seferovic, who started last match on the bench, will have their chance at the starting lineup against France, replacing Drmic and Stocker. Fabian Schar may have to settle for a place on the bench once more after Johan Djourou and Steven Von Bergen put in impressive performances at centre-back on Sunday.

France have started a World Cup well and their confident 3-0 victory over Honduras will have given them confidence going into this game. Benzema, who scored a brace, now has eight goals in his last seven international matches, so is bang in form.
Deschamps will play with his usual 4-3-3 approach with Griezmann and Valbuena acting as some sort of false wingers in support of Benzema as Olivier Giroud may have to settle for a starting spot on the bench once more. The absence of Franck Ribery hasn't been a problem so far
France team are unbeaten in their last five matches against Switzerland (W2 D3) and haven’t lost against the Swiss since a friendly back in 1992. The last three meetings have all ended in draws between these two, and it was a 0-0 in their last meeting, which was at the 2006 World Cup.

Probable lineups Switzerland: Benaglio – Lichtsteiner, Senderos, von Bergen, Rodriguez – Inler, Behrami – Shaqiri, G.Xhaka, Stocker – Drmic.
Probable lineups France: Lloris – Debuchy, Varane, Sakho, Evra – Cabaye, Matuidi – Valbuena, Pogba, Griezmann – Benzema.

Netherlands did manage to get themselves in front after 20 minutes from Arjen Robben's fine finish, but within just one minute, Australia got back on level terms as Tim Cahill scored a cracking equalizer.
After the break, both teams kept on pushing forward and it was the Asian representative that got themselves ahead from Mile Jedinak's spot kick on 54 minutes.
Netherlands were not keen on going down as they regained their composure and eventually got that equalizing goal from Robin Van Persie on 58 minutes.

Spain vs Chile FIFA World Cup - Group B 18-06-2014

0 التعليقات

Spain and Chile will lock horns at the emblematic Estádio Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday night. A must-win match for the defending champions.
Spain team come into this clash knowing that they will almost certainly have to win the game to stand a chance of qualification since they have lost 5-1 against Netherlands on Friday evening. The Spanish defensive line had a night to forget and Casillas, in particular, will certainly remember that match forever. The goalkeeper definetely showed the world why he was benched by Mourinho and Ancelotti.
Captain Iker Casillas is expected to keep his place in goal despite a performance he described as the worst of his career, with David De Gea out of this match and possibly the rest of the competition with a hip injury. Diego Costa caused the Dutch some problems but his overall performance was not the most convincing, so Fernando Torres might replace him.
Chile secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Australia in the first round. They were bright with Sanchez, Vargas and Valdivia in particular creating a lot of goal chances. La Roja was in control of the game very early at 2-0 up but Australia pulled one back before the break and in the end it was nervy stuff until a 90th minute goal restored the two goal cushion.
Arturo Vidal lasted an hour in Cuiaba on his comeback from a knee operation but will retain his spot. Sampaoli may consider bringing in Francisco Silva at centre-back, but he is expected to continue with Gary Medel and Eugenio Mena as his central defensive pairing.
Spain have won just one of their last five internationals played a neutral venue but they are undefeated in ten previous matches against the South Americans. They have also not lost back to back international matches since October of 2006 either.

probable line-ups:
Spain (4-3-3) – Casillas – Azpilicueta – Sergio Ramos – Piqué – Jordi Alba – Xabi Alonso – Busquets – Xavi – Iniesta – Juan Mata – Fernando Torres.
Chile (3-4-3) – Bravo – Jara – Medel  - Isla – Vidal – Díaz – Mena -Aránguiz – Valdivia – Sánchez – Vargas.

Germany vs Portugal FIFA World Cup Group G - June 16, 2014

0 التعليقات

Germany vs Portugal - Competition: FIFA World Cup, Group G

Germany and Portugal will go head-to-head at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, on what will be the most anticipated match of the World Cup Group G.
At the last World Cup 2010 Germany made it to the semi-finals with a young side, this players are much more experienced now and want to win the title this time. Especially the German midfield is considered to be very strong, with Thomas Müller and Miroslav Klose they have the top scorers of the last two World Cups on board. Another plus is the high quality they have on the bench, which makes them very flexible and could become a real advantage later in the tournament. It is therefore not easy to know which formation coach Joachim Löw will play on Monday, but it looks like a 4-5-1 with Philip Lahm in midfield instead of his normal position as right-back. The 35-year-old Klose is the only striker in the squad, but probably Thomas Müller will play up front against Portugal. Left-winger Marco Reus got heavily injured in Germany’s last test match against Armenia (6:1), he will miss the World Cup. But as said above, Germany have strong substitutes, players like Podolski or Schürrle can replace him.
Also the team from Portugal is largely identical with the side that had already played at the last World Cup in South Africa. 2010 the ‘Selecção’ got knocked out by later World Champions Spain in the Round of 16, two years later they lost on penalties against the Spanish in the semi-finals of the EURO 2012. Outstanding star of the team is Cristiano Ronaldo, but with Nani, creative midfielder Moutinho or the Real Madrid defenders Fábio Coentrão and Pepe they have other high class players available. Though Portugal can act with their two strong wingers Ronaldo and Nani, they miss a real good striker. Hugo Almeira scored at least twice when the Portuguese beat Ireland 5:1 in their last test on Tuesday. In this match Ronaldo, Pepe and Raul Meireles were playing, but all three had been injured before and there are serious doubts about their fitness.

Germany last 5 matches:
19/11/13 England 0 – 1 Germany

Switzerland 2-1 Ecuador Highlights 2014 World Cup

Switzerland vs Ecuador - Competition: FIFA World Cup

Being placed as favorite in the group, Swiss were eager to show their worth by putting on an impressive display, but it was far from an easy task for Ottmar Hitzfeld's men.
Ecuador put on a strong pressure early on and that positive effort was rewarded when they took the lead on 22 minutes through Enner Valencia.
Swiss improved their performance after the break and got back on level terms early after the re-start, thanks to Admir Mehmedi's close range header.
The match got tight again after that equalizer, but it was the European side that got all three points when a swift counter attack deep in stoppage time was finished off with a fine goal from Haris Seferovic.

England vs Italy FIFA World Cup June 14, 2014

England vs Italy - Competition: FIFA World Cup, Group D

England team went through qualification for this summer’s tournament unbeaten, though they have won just two of the six games they have played since booking their place in Brazil. They beat Peru in their first of three warm-up games two weeks ago, before drawing with Ecuador and Honduras in Miami.
Roy Hodgson is likely to pick a fairly reliable XI to face Italy, with Danny Welbeck and Adam Lallana, both of whom do plenty of defensive work, in behind Daniel Sturridge. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is set to miss the first game but should be fit come the Uruguay game.
Despite winning just one of their last eight games coming into the tournament, the Azzurri are slightly favourite here. Prior to that match in Rio de Janeiro, Cesare Prandelli’s side drew with both the Republic of Ireland and Luxembourg.
Andrea Barzagli is a slight doubt for the game while right back De Sciglio is out through injury. Alessio Cerci could join Mario Balotelli in attack, though the in-form Ciro Immobile is another option whose pace could trouble England's defence.
They sides last met in the quarter-finals of Euro 2012. While they may only have lost on penalties, the Three Lions were thoroughly outclassed. Having conceded at least twice against Denmark, Armenia, Nigeria and Fluminense in that period, Cesare Prandelli’s side are unlikely to keep a clean sheet against the in-form Rooney-Sturridge duo.

probable line-ups:
England (4-2-3-1): Hart; Baines, Cahill, Jagielka, Johnson; Henderson, Gerrard; Lallana, Wellbeck, Rooney; Sturridge.
Italy (4-3-2-1):
Buffon; Abate, Darmian, Barzagli, Chiellini; Pirlo, Marchisio, De Rossi; Verratti, Cerci; Balotelli.

Goals: Chile – Alexis Sanchez 12 Jorge Valdivia 14 Jean Beausejour 90
Australia – Tim Cahill 35

Chile didn't waste much time in putting strong pressure against their opponent and that effort was immediately rewarded as they went one goal up on 12 minutes from Alexis Sanchez.
Things continue to look comfortably for Chile as they were able to double their lead on 14 minutes from Jorge Valdivia's effort.
Looking calm and confident, the South American side suddenly got rather lackluster, allowing Australia to pull one back on 35 minutes through TIm Cahill.
Both teams continue to push forward after the break, but it was Chile that manage to find the killer blow as they sealed all three points thanks to an effort from Jean Beausejour in stoppage time.

Spain vs Netherlands World Cup - Group B 13-06-2014

0 التعليقات

Spain vs Netherlands - Competition: FIFA World Cup, Group B
Match date: 13 June 2014 - Kick Off Time: 20:00 BST
Venue: Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova (Salvador, Bahia)

The defending World Cup champions Spain will kick off their title defence on Friday, hoping to become just the third nation since its 1930 inauguration to win back-to-back WC championships. But with an aging roster playing in a difficult Group B that includes Netherlands, Chile, and Australia, the Spaniards won’t find this monumental task an easy one. They enter the global tournament as the 3rd-highest favorites behind glory-hungry Argentina and host nation Brazil, despite some pundits and fans claiming that manager Vicente del Bosque’s side is the best to ever grace the pitch with 2 European Championships bookending their 2010 World Cup triumph. Mainstays Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez will be looked to, to provide leadership and experience from the midfield, while newcomers to the fold like Atletico Madrid star Diego Costa aim to prove themselves on the biggest stage in sports and stake their name in football lore. The latter has battled an injury since limping off the field in the Champions League final, but news has emerged that the Brazilian-born Spaniard will be fit to start here in Salvador, Bahia. Form has been uncharacteristic but altogether good for the “home” side here, winning 8 of their last 10 matches, including a 1-0 defeat of Italy and a 2-0 defeat of El Salvador last time out that witnessed the seemingly ageless leading goal-scorer in Spanish history David Villa net both goals.

The Netherlands begin their campaign to avenge their 2010 WC final defeat against the very same team that ended their pursuit of football glory. Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben, and Wesley Sneijder were all starters in that deep tournament run, and all three will return here as their nation’s veteran leaders. But while van Persie and Robben are sure bets to perform at a high level as neither has seen a major drop-off in club action, the big question mark headed in for the Dutch is Sneijder. The midfielder netted 5 goals in the 2010 games and was his team’s main catalyst from central midfield. But he has undoubtedly taken a dip in his career, and his ability to retain the form of 2010 may prove crucial to their cause in a difficult first round group. Coupled with the devastating loss of Kevin Strootman to injury, Sneijder’s midfield presence becomes all the more important for the “visitors”. However, Le Oranje is known for almost always playing well in the global competition, and manager Louis van Gaal has been credited as a managing mastermind. The newly-signed Manchester United manager appears set to deploy an uncharacteristic 3 defender formation in hopes to put immense pressure on Spain’s preferred tiki-taka football, with this tactic yielding positive results against the reigning world and European champions in past matches (see Brazil’s 2013 Confederations Cup victory).

Brazil vs Croatia World Cup - Group A June 12, 2014

Brazil vs Croatia - Competition: FIFA World Cup 2014, Group A

Hosts Brazil taking on Croatia in Sao Paulo on Thursday 12th June for the 2014 World Cup opening match.
Finally this moment arrived. The World Cup 2014 starts and Brazil will meet Croatia for the first match. It is obvious what their intentions are. They want to win the Word Cup for the 6 time. And the situation couldn’t be better than playing the World Cup as hosts. The first game is always an important one. If you lose, things could go in a bad direction. Think about France 2002. As current Champions they lost the opening game and in the end couldn’t qualify for the last 16. Brazil has other plans. They had two friendlies in the last weeks during their preparation for the World Cup. In the first game they played against Panama and won easily 4:0. Neymar, Dani Alves, Hulk and Willian scored. Against Serbia in their second test it was a bit harder. The Serbs were defending pretty well and Brazil had some troubles. But in the end Fred scored the golden goal in the 58 minute. It was a good test, because they assume Croatia to play similar to the Serbian team. Many teams have injury problems or important player missing. But not the Brazilian team, there are 23 men and all of them are ready for the first game.
It will be a very difficult first match for the Croatian team against the big favorite Brazil in their home country. Croatia has a good team with international experienced players but not many believe in a Croatian win in the opening game. As Brazil, they already played two friendlies in their preparation. Both games were won by the Croatians. After a 2:1 win against Mali they beat Australia with 1:0. Perisic scored twice against Mail and Jelavic made the deciding 1:0 against Australia. In contradiction to the Brazilian team, they will have more troubles with the climate. They already decided to switch their training in the evening hours instead of training in the morning due to climate problems. But that will become an issue for most of the European teams. Another important thing is that Mario Mandzukic will miss this first game because of a red card in the last play-off game against Iceland. Danijel Pranjic will miss too due to an injury. Gordon Schildenfeld who is believed to be the second central defender has some injury problems too, but there is still a chance for him to play the first game.

probable line-ups:
Brazil (4-3-3): Julio Cesar; Dani Alves, Marcelo, Thaigo Silva, David Luiz; Luiz Gustavo, Paulinho; Oscar, Hulk, Neymar; Fred.
Croatia (4-2-3-1): Pletikosa; Srna, Lovren, Corluka, Vrsaljko; Modric, Vukojevic; Perisic, Rakitic, Kovacic; Olic.

Brazil last 5 matches:
17/11/13 Honduras 0 – 5 Brazil
20/11/13 Brazil 2 – 1 Chile
05/03/14 South Africa 0 – 5 Brazil
03/06/14 Brazil 4 – 0 Panama
06/06/14 Brazil 1 – 0 Serbia

Croatia last 5 matches:
15/11/13 Iceland 0 – 0 Croatia
19/11/13 Croatia 2 – 0 Iceland
05/03/14 Switzerland 2 – 2 Croatia
31/05/14 Croatia 2 – 1 Mali

England vs Honduras International Friendly 4 June, 2014

England vs Honduras - Competition: International Friendly

Ecuador team qualified with a solid 4th rank in the strong south american qualification group. They ended up behind Argentinia, Columbia and Chile but managed to stay in front of Uruguay (who qualified via playoff later). In March they tested against world cup participant Australia. After a 0:3 loss at halftime they managed to come back sensationally and win the game 4:3! – You better don’t quit on these guys early. On 17th May they played a friendly in Amsterdam Arena against the Netherlands and reached a 1:1 draw. Last Saturday they travelled to Arlington (Texas) to play a Mexican team that showed nice form lately. In the end they lost 3:1 against an impressive Mexican side. Their top-stars carry the same name on their shirts: Valencia. On the one hand there is Antonio Valencia, the experienced guy from top-club Manchester United and on the other side they have young guy Enna Valencia from CF Pachuca. While Antonio played a poor season at ManU and couldn’t convince in the team lately as well, Enna seems to be a rising star. He netted thrice for the team lately (also against Mexiko) and we could see his breakout at the world cup in Brazil. Speaking of the world cup – “el Tri” will face France, Honduras and Switzerland in the group stage. 2 european opponents – that’s why England as a test partner makes absolutely sense and Ecuador will take this one very serious.
Probable lineups Ecuador: Banguera – Paredes, Guagua, Achilier, Bagui –Gruezo, Noboa – A.Valencia, Mendez, Rojas – Caicedo.

England team has to face Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica in the group stage of Brazil 2014. That’s why testing against an other south american team is definitely a good decision. Therefore also England will take this game very serious and we can look forward to a foretaste of world cup action! The “three lions” should come with confidence after the clear 3:0 victory from last Friday against Peru. Their performance, however, wasn’t impressive. An amazing individual effort from Liverpool-Star Sturridge and two converted corners sealed the victory. None the less a clear victory against a team that totally focused on defense and destroying the game. We could see Manager Roy Hodgson trying several options. Welbeck started as single striker with Lallana and Sturridge on the wings and Rooney behind them. Later Sterling came on for Rooney (we hope to see both together this time) and Sturridge gave the middle-striker. Welbeck and Sturridge came from the wings then in their 4-4-3 formation. Lallana went to defensive midfield. Wilshere gave his comeback and replaced legend Steven Gerrard after 64. minutes.  This english squad definitely holds a lot of offensive power but wasn’t able to show it yet. Against Ecuador they will need to step it up a notch to reach a positive result!
Probable lineups England: Hart – Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines –Henderson, Gerrard – Lallana, Rooney, Welbeck – Sturridge.
