Arsenal vs Man City This last Saturday’s match within the 32nd
round of the English Premiership brings us two competitors in the fight
for the title, with the proviso that Man City is in a slightly
better position than Arsenal FC, because they have three points more and
has two games less.
Arsenal team enter matchweek 32 of league action having seen yet another
English Premier League title dwindle away with their inability to get results
against the top teams. Last Saturday saw them get whacked 6-0 by 1st
place Chelsea-a game that was all but over after just 7 minutes of game
time. That didn't end the Gunners' title ambitions though, a 2-2 draw
with Swansea at home on Tuesday did. A ferocious comeback saw the hosts
take the 2-1 lead and what was looking like all 3 points. But a serious
of errors saw Flamini kick the ball into his own net in stoppage time.
Now, Arsenal find themselves in familiar territory having to stave off
teams from 4th place-a pinnacle that almost certainly guarantees
Champions League qualification for next season. But a visit from
free-scoring Man City isn't what the doctor ordered for an
ailing, beleaguered squad. The visitors beat Arsenal 6-3 in the replay
this season at the Etihad and that was against an Arsenal team that
still had the likes of Theo Walcott healthy and fit. Notice the injury
list below.
- Probable lineups Arsenal: Szczesny – Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs – Flamini, Arteta – Rosicky, Cazorla, Podolski – Giroud.
Man City still control their own Premier League destiny after
earning a comfortable 3-0 win over rivals Manchester United this past
Tuesday. Eden Dzeko proved the difference-maker, and the depth that City
have in striker is a key component with star man Sergio Aguero still
sidelined through injury. The Citizens have now won 3 in a row at a goal
tally of 10 scored and 0 conceded, including claiming victory in 12 of
their last 14 Premier League matches. The defence admittedly has some
holes in it and can concede at a high rate, but Arsenal have simply not
been able to score consistently this season and aren't likely to keep up
with City's high-flying attack, especially with their numerous
injuries.
- Probable lineups Manchester City: Hart – Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy –Fernandinho, Yaya Toure – Navas, Silva, Nasri – Dzeko.
