Manchester City vs FC Barcelona Champions League 24-02-2015

Manchester City vs FC Barcelona
Competition: Champions League, 2014/2015 - Round of 16 (first leg)
Match date: Tuesday, 24 February 2015
Kick Off Time: 19:45 GMT - 7:45 pm
Venue: Etihad Stadium, Manchester, United Kingdom

Man City team have been handed a chance at revenge in just their second-ever trip to the Champions League Round of 16. In their first visit to the knockout round last season, they fell to the Spanish giants 1:4 on aggregate with 2 critical errors from Demichelis and Zabaleta, with the former dooming City’s chances at the Etihad with a 54th-minute red card and penalty concession. Bad news comes in the form of yet another suspension for the hosts, who will be forced to play without their midfield lynchpin and former Barcelona man, Yaya Toure. However, confidence will have been restored to the Manchester camp over the past 3 weeks, as they thrashed Stoke City 4:1 and then dismantled Newcastle 5:0. Sergio Aguero bagged 3 of those total 9 goals and has begun to find his scoring form just in time as they head into this critical clash with Barcelona. Still, they will likely be forced into a more defensive approach here and hope that the likes of Jesus Navas and Aguero can utilize their speed on counter-attacks. Ultimately, a draw appears to be the best-case scenario here for the English hosts.
FC Barcelona team saw their 11-match win streak snapped over the weekend in a stunning 0:1 home loss to Malaga. The letdown in concentration was perhaps expected a bit with their critical showdown against Man City approaching, but their inability to find the back of the net despite having over 70% of the possession is admittedly rather worrying. However, Luis Suarez returns to England here with loads of Premier League experience, and it’s not often that Messi is kept quiet for back-to-back games. They can score goals in bunches and have proven so with 25 goals over their last 6 competitive outings and 15 goals over their 6 UCL group stage matches. They defeated the Citizens last season 4:1 on aggregate and are certainly the favorites to qualify from this round. Their South American attack trio is simply to strong and will be able to make the comeback if they do indeed fall behind. Another victory at the Etihad could be on the cards here, but a draw is the more-likely scenario in Manchester.

Probable lineups:
Manchester City: Hart – Zabaleta, Kompany, Mangala, Clichy – Silva, Fernando, Fernandinho, Nasri – Aguero, Dzeko.
FC Barcelona: Bravo – Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Alba – Rakiti?, Busquets, Iniesta – Suarez, Messi, Neymar.

Tottenham vs West Ham English Premier League - February 22, 2015

0 التعليقات

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United - Competition: English Premier League

Tottenham are one of the many teams wanting to get into the top four and claim a UCL spot. They are currently placed 6th in the EPL with only three points less than Southampton on the 3rd place. Spurs have been doing well lately, although the 3-2 loss to Liverpool last time out was a tough one to take. Generally they are great at home where they won their last three league games. The home record in the league is 7-2-4 with a scoring balance of 20-15. It is also worth noticing that Tottenham have scored at least two goals in their past four league games. Two of the most important players have been Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen, who are having some fantastic performances in the league. Kane is proving himself as an incredible attacker (13 goals), while the Danish Playmaker Eriksen is crucial for the teams performance. It will be interesting to see, whether the injury-hit West Ham defence can cope with these two youngsters. Spurs have had some trouble playing West Ham in the past, but we expect them to come out on top in the London derby.
West Ham United seemed to be unstoppable earlier this season. It is well deserved that they are placed as number 8 in the table, but the recent drop in could take them out of the top 10 flight. In the last four games West Ham have only gained two points. Especially the latest loss in the FA Cup to West Bromwich was a tough one. WHU left with a devastating 4-0 loss. A big reason for this is the missing players. Andy Carrol was an important players this season with five goals, and he will probably be out for the rest of the season. This means that Diafra Sakho (8 goals this season) becomes even more important when it comes to scoring goals. For this game Amalfitano will also be out due to suspension. West Ham have been decent away from Upton Park this season going 3-5-4 with a goal score of 16-17. But with so many missing players it will be hard to see West Ham take points against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham last 5 matches:
28/01/15 Sheffield United 2 – 2 Tottenham
31/01/15 West Brom 0 – 3 Tottenham
07/02/15 Tottenham 2 – 1 Arsenal
10/02/15 Liverpool 3 – 2 Tottenham
19/02/15 Tottenham 1 – 1 Fiorentina

Schalke 04 vs Real Madrid Champions League - 18-02-2015

Schalke 04 vs Real Madrid - Competition: UEFA Champions League

Schalke 04 are currently fourth in the Bundesliga after Saturday night's underwhelming 1-0 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt. They finished 2nd in their UCL group. They lost two of their six group games, including a 5-0 home thrashing by Chelsea and were forced to win their final match at Maribor as well as see Sporting Lisbon lose to group winner Chelsea FC. They conceded 14 goals over six games, finishing with a minus-5 goal differential.
Di Matteo will be without three key players as Julian Draxler, Leon Goretzka and Jefferson Farfan. Furthermore, Ralf Fahrmann, Sead Kolasinac and Chinedu Obasi are all sidelined and will also miss out here.

Real Madrid team defeated Deportivo 2-0 at the weekend and so they have won 5 of their 6 matches but their only loss was a heavy 4-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the league the only time that they have not won in their last six games.
The Blancos will be missing two stars James Rodriguez and Luca Modric. Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao and Sami Khedira are all out of contention too. Pepe returns to the starting line-up as well as Asier Illaramendi, who is likely to start the match.
Last year Schalke 04 was literally destroyed at the Arena AufSchalke as Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale all grabbed braces in a 6-1 win before beating Schalke 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu. FC Schalke 04 have won only two of their last 15 encounters against Spanish opponents, suffering eight defeats.

Probable lineups:
Schalke 04: Wellenreuther (Giefer) – Howedes, Matip, Nastasic – Uchida, Fuchs – Kirchhoff – Hoger, Boateng – Choupo-Moting – Huntelaar.
Real Madrid: Casillas – Carvajal, Varane, Pepe, Marcelo – Illarramendi, T. Kroos – Bale, Isco, C. Ronaldo – Benzema.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Chelsea Champions League - February 17, 2015

Paris Saint-Germain vs Chelsea FC
Competition: Champions League, 2014/2015 - Round of 16 (first leg)
Match date: Tuesday, February 17, 2015
Kick Off Time: 19:45 GMT
Venue:  Parc des Princes (Paris, France)

Paris Saint-Germain did not get the momentum-building result they needed over the weekend, as they were held to a 2:2 draw with Caen after the visitors scored twice in the dying minutes of the match to come back level. Injuries to Cabaye, Lucas, Aurier, and Marquinhos marred what had been a good day, as manager Laurent Blanc’s substitutions meant they were forced to play with just 9 players at the end of the match. While it is uncertain whether any of these players can play this midweek, their presence is highly doubtful, and Blanc has admitted that it leaves his team exposed. However, they will take confidence from the fact that they conquered Chelsea 3:1 last season at the Parc des Princes, and the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva always give this side a good shot at winning on any given day. They have gone unbeaten this season in all competitions at home, winning 14 of those 18 matches (Super Cup included) with the most impressive victory coming against Barcelona (3:2) in the UCL group stage. Therefore, it seems safe to say that PSG should emerge here with their unbeaten home record still intact, though victory could frustratingly avoid their grasp.
Chelsea FC team travel to the French capital with plenty of rest after not playing in the English FA Cup this weekend after their defeat last round. That cup elimination has actually worked directly in their favor, as not only will they be better rested and better prepared, but the French champions have picked up some big injuries in their weekend match while Jose Mourinho looked on from the stands. The boss will have taken notice of their absence list and will be keen to avoid the drama of last season’s knockout round clash that saw the aggregate end 3:3 with Chelsea advancing on away goals. He would likely be ecstatic with a draw here and should ultimately play for one as the match goes on. However, they do have the ability to take a crucial advantage against the hosts, as the return of Diego Costa is a critical boon for the attack. The Spaniard watched as his compatriot Cesc Fabregas made his return from injury last time out, and Chelsea will be at near-full capacity when they travel to Paris. However, Mourinho will likely opt for more defensive tactics with respect to what Paris Saint-Germain did to them here last season, and a draw would likely be very well-received by the Portuguese and his band of marauders.

Probable lineups:
Chelsea: Courtois – Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry, Azpilicueta – Matic, Fabregas – Willian, Oscar, Hazard – Diego Costa.
Paris Saint-Germain: Sirigu – van der Wiel, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Maxwell – Verratti, Motta, Rabiot – Cavani,  Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Caen French Ligue 1 14-02-2015

Paris Saint-Germain vs SM Caen
Competition: French Ligue 1
Match date: 14 February 2015
Kick Off Time: 15:00 GMT
Venue: Parc des Princes, Paris

Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the last 8 of the CDF on Wednesday, using two first-half goals from Yohan Cabaye and Edinson Cavani to secure their place in the quarterfinals. The Uruguayan hit-man once again thrived in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and will have picked up some much-needed confidence when he will surely be thrust back to the wing here as the Swede is set to return. The debate rages on as to whether the Parisians have been better with or without their superstar striker this season, as Wednesday witnessed a flowing team full of cohesion opposed to a collection of stars. But that is neither here nor there as he remains their best player and won’t be losing his starting job, and the hosts must now turn their attention to Caen. They have already conquered them this season in the reverse fixture, comfortably downing them 2:0 with goals from Lucas and Marquinhos. It marked the 6th-straight match against Caen in which the hosts have scored at least 2 goals. Furthermore, they are unbeaten in their last 7 Ligue 1 clashes with the travelers, managing to take all 3 points on 6 of those occasions. Something similar is the expected outcome here in the French capital.
Caen team take their 4-match winning streak and a load of confidence to the Parc des Princes. They have spring-boarded themselves away from the relegation zone a bit and now sit at 4 points above the dreaded bottom 3. For a team that had drawn 3 and lost 8 of their previous 11 competitive fixtures, it has been a remarkable turnaround for Patrice Garande and his troops. They have outscored their opponents 11 to 2 over their 4-game winning streak, most notably conquering ASSE, 1:0. Julian Feret has been on absolute tear and is in large part the main culprit in their run of good form, scoring 4 goals and adding 3 assists over just their last 4 outings. Furthermore, they will take Ligue 1’s 2nd-highest scoring away tally to the French capital here, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them find a way to break down the hosts once or twice. However, it’s important to note that the visitors have taken just 4 total points from 11 matches this season against the top half of the table, and Saturday should see their winning streak snapped at 4.

Manchester United vs Burnley Premier League - February 11, 2015

Manchester United vs Burnley
Competition: English Premier League
Match date: 11 February 2015
Kick Off Time: 19:45 GMT
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester

Manchester United team have only one defeat in the last 17 matches in all competitions. That was against Southampton four league rounds ago. Last matchday Daley Blind scored a 92nd-minute goal for Manchester United to secure a dramatic 1-1 draw against West Ham, although Louis van Gaal might rue a missed chance to reclaim third place in the Barclays Premier League table. The Red Devils sit on the 4th position, only one point behind Southampton. Tottenham are just behind them on one point difference, so there is no space for relaxation. However, the atmosphere at Old Trafford is much better now and Van Gaal is free of the pressure. Man United have won the last two home games in which they scored exactly three goals per match. They are on second place in the home standings with nine wins, one draw and two defeats, a goal difference of 25:9 and 28 points.
Last round Burnley earned their first point in the last 4 matches with a draw at home against West Brom although Burnley were two up after 32 minutes through Ashley Barnes and Danny Ings. The point was enough for Burnley to climb back out of the relegation zone but they desperately needed all three with an extremely tough run of fixtures coming up. Things remain tight at the foot of the table with just seven points separating the bottom seven teams. The draw also helped them to end a run of two defeats in a row in the league despite the team scoring two goals per match. One of those matches was against Crystal Palace at home. Even they have lead over Crystal Palace, they lost the match just before the end of the game. Away from home, they are currently on 18th place in the away standings with one win, four draws and six defeats, a goal difference of 10:22 and 7 points.

Cote d’Ivoire vs Ghana Africa Cup of Nations Final 08-02-2015

0 التعليقات

Cote d’Ivoire vs Ghana - Competition: Africa Cup of Nations Final

Cote d’Ivoire team have been the dominant team at the Africa Cup this year, shrugging off a slow start that saw them enter their final group stage match in danger of being eliminated. But an excellent defensive performance saw them conquer Cameroon 1:0 to set up a much-anticipated clash with Algeria. The North Africans had staked their claim as the top team in Africa with an excellent World Cup showing, but with Wilfried Bony absolutely dominating the pitch right now for club and country, there is certainly no more talented team in the whole continent. The Man City signing has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists through both of their knockout round fixtures, while Gervinho is also finding his feet and making an impact from the wing. However, the engine that keeps this team running is Yaya Toure, and the Black Stars will find it difficult to keep the midfielder from dictating play here. But Ghana should be able to put some pressure on the Ivorians, whose defence admittedly has question marks. This shouldn’t be a repeat of the 0:0 final when these nations met in the 1992 title match, though another round of penalty kicks wouldn’t be surprising. But with an all-star cast and Wilfried Bony seemingly unable to do any wrong at the moment, the advantage here lies with the Elephants who are seeking just their second-ever Africa Cup trophy.
Ghana team were hardly dominant in their group stage matches, though topping the labeled “Group of Death” was no small feat, and it’s evident the confidence gained from their come-from-behind 2:1 win over South Africa. Captain Andre Ayew, arguably this team’s most talented player was the man of the match against Bafana Bafana, as he provided the assist for the equalizer and then found the back of the net for the match-winning goal. That win set up a date with Guinea in the quarter-finals, where the favorites proceeded to smash them 3:0 behind a top-drawer display from Christian Atsu. Then, after a largely-uneventful first 40 minutes against the tournament hosts, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana pulled off the handbrake and smashed them with 2 goals before halftime to set up the eventual 3:0 victory. This is a dangerous team that can score goals, and against a side that has conceded at least once in 5 of their last 6 matches (friendlies included), they should be able to create opportunities on Sunday. However, when all is said and done the Ghanaians should find themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline, falling to their 3rd- consecutive defeat when making it to the AFCON title match. It’s important to note that Asamoah Gyan could be forced to sit through injury, though the manager will likely force him into action if there is any chance for him.

Congo DR vs Cote d’Ivoire - Competition: Africa Cup of Nations

The host of this next meeting Congo DR  had a terrible start into their quarterfinal game against Congo. The first half though ended with a scoreless draw but afterwards things got crazy. Congo took the lead in minute 55 and only seven minutes later they increased by scoring the 2:0 thru Bifouma. With a 0:2 leg and only 30 minutes left to play things couldn’t had been worse. Still, no reason to give up the game and the chance for reaching the semi finals  at the African Cup of Nations. Mbokani scored the 1:2 in minute 65 and marked the 4:2 in the last minute of the game. DR Congo never gave up and rewarded themselves. Now they have the chance for the final, but their opponent will be a tougher one compared to the quarter final. In their last meeting with the Cote d’Ivoire though they beat them with 4:3 at the qualification for the African Cup. And in 2015 they are still unbeaten (4 draws, 1 win).
The Cote d’Ivoire team was one of the big favorites for winning the African Cup of Nations 2015. They started the year 2015 with 2 friendlies (1 win against Nigeria 1:0, and 0:2 defeat against Sweden. After this 2 performances they kicked off the Cup with 2 draws at the group stage against Guinea and Mali, before they advanced into the quarter finals thanks to a 1:0 win against a strong team from Cameroon. At the quarter finals they had to play against one of the best teams at the FIFA World Cup 2014 – Algeria. Newly signed Man City striker Bony marked the leading goal for the “Elephants” but Algeria equalized shortly after the break. And once again Bony was the man to bring back the lead for the Cote d’Ivoire – with another header. The final goal of the game was scored by Gervinho in minute 90. Gradel and Bony have been their best scorer so far, each with 2 goals. With such a strong offense they are surely in favor for winning the semi finals.
