Manchester United vs Sunderland - Competition: English Premier League
Date: 26 December 2016 - Kick-off Time: 15:00 GMT - 16:00 CET
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester

Manchester United team have kick-started their EPL campaign since the start of the month with three straight victories extending their unbeaten run to eight games. Last weekend the Red Devils beat West Brom on the travels (0:2) courtesy of a brace scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. United are now 6th in the Premier League standings 4 points below Arsenal in 4th. In terms of direct matches, they have won 6 of their last 7 home encounters against Sunderland in all competitions.
Luke Shaw is United’s only absentee as both Eric Bailly and Mkhitaryan are back in contention. Jose Mopurinho will be tempted to name the starting XI that started against WBA, with Michael Carrick stationed in front of the back four, leaving Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in central midfield. Up front, Wayne Rooney has started in each their last two matches after a time on the bench and may keep his place in the team on Boxing Day with Anthony Martial still out in the cold. As usual, Zlatan will spearhead the attack.
Sunderland picked up a valuable 1-0 win over Watford at the weekend but have been dire on the road this season. The Black Cats have lost 5 of their last 6 away matches and have also failed to score in 5 of these 6 games. David Moyes' men endured their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign, and although the Black Cats have improved lately, they now sit in 18th spot in the Premier League table, one point below the safe zone.
Adnan Januzaj is ineligible to face his parent club while Steven Pienaar and BIlli Jones are also a question mark ahead of this clash. David Moyes is likely to field a 4-5-1 formation with Jermaine Defoe as lone striker and the likes of Fabio Borini and Victor Anichebe as offensive wingers. Didier Ndong and Jason Denayer look set to keep their places in central midfield. Jack Rodwell, Paddy McNair, Jan Kirchhoff, Lee Cattermole, Duncan Watmore and Lynden Gooch are all ruled out.

Probable lineups:
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Darmian, Rojo, Jones, Valencia; Carrick, Herrera; Rooney, Pogba, Mata; Ibrahimovic.
Sunderland (4-5-1): Pickford; Love, Konè, Djilobodji, Van Aanholt; Ndong, Denayer, Pienaar, Borini, Anichebe; Defoe.

Toby Alderweireld returned from a leg injury to play 22 minutes on Wednesday night and could start here. Mousa Dembélé was rested on Wednesday but will start in the middle of the park. Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min could then operate in the advanced midfield positions behind lone striker Harry Kane. Real Madrid, who are yet lose a UCL match this season, currently sit 2nd in the group table with 11 points (W3 D2) and trail leaders Dortmund by two points. Hence, they have the chance to leapfrog the German outfit with a victory. The direct match played in Germany resulted in 2-2 draw at Dortmund’s home soil. Los Blancos' unbeaten start to the season continued on Saturday as a 90th minute Sergio Ramos equaliser earned them a point in El Clasico against FC Barcelona, a draw that kept Zidane's men at the top of La Liga BBVA standings with a 6 points gap over the Blaugrana.
Toni Kroos and Alvaro Morata have both resumed training but they are expected to sit on the bench for this crucial match. Right backs Danilo and Fabio Coentrao are both doubtful. Gareth Bale is the only long-term absentee for the hosts as the Welshman will be on the sidelines for the next 4 months. Lucas Vazquez is set to replace Bale with Zidane expected to make minimal changes to the side who started at the Camp Nou at the weekend.
Borussia Dortmund team recorded an impressive 4-1 win over Monchengladbach on Saturday to bounce back from their away defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt the previous week. They have not been quite as reliable with two domestic losses on the road and only  one clean sheet away from home this season, but their Champions League form has been very impressive. In Europe, Dortmund lead Group F table with 13 points, having won four and drawn one out of their five group matches played so far.
Mario Gotze who misses the trip to Spain through injury. The German international has joined Roman Burki, Raphael Guerreiro and Sven Bender on the sidelines.
