El Clasico: Barcelona vs Real Madrid Spanish Primera Division - 22-03-2015

0 التعليقات

FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid
Competition: Spanish Primera Division
Match date: Sunday 22 March 2015
Kick Off Time: 20:00 GMT
Venue: Camp Nou, Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona have actually won the other 16 of the last 17 matches they have played in all competitions, in a run stretching right back to January. They have already booked a place in the final of the Copa del Rey and on Wednesday moved in the UCL quarterfinals after victory over Man City.
Barcelona should have a near fully-fit squad with the only injury doubts being over defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets. In the absence of Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano will continue in defensive midfield, with Jeremy Mathieu pushed into centre-back as a result. Jordi Alba and Dani Alves return from suspension while Rakitic should retain his spot in midfield.
After drawing at home to Villarreal and losing away to Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid only progressed in the UCL due to their first-leg performance in Germany as they were beaten 4-3 by Schalke in the second leg at the Bernabeu. Since their 22 match win streak, there have been five defeats in their 16 matches, including elimination from the Copa del Rey.
James Rodriguez is the only real injury concern for the visitors. Luka Modric will start in central midfield, alongside both Toni Kroos and Isco, despite Sami Khedira is fully recovered. Iker Casillas and Toni Kroos got a rest in last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Levante and will be fresh for this weekend’s crunch tie.
The Catalans have been simply irresistible at home this season, winning eighteen of their twenty matches at Camp Nou. As for the direct matches, Both sides have scored in each of the 16 encounters played since the beginning of the 2011/12 season and all but one of these matches has contained three or more goals. In the reverse fixture Real Madrid recorded a 3-1 win over the Catalans at the Bernabeu in October.

Probable lineups:
FC Barcelona: Bravo – Adriano, Pique, Mathieu, Jordi Alba – Mascherano, Iniesta, Rakitic – Messi, Suarez, Neymar.
Real Madrid: Casillas – Carvajal, Pepe, S. Ramos, Marcelo – Modric, T. Kroos – Bale, Isco, C. Ronaldo – Benzema.

FC Barcelona last 5 matches:

AS Monaco vs Arsenal UEFA Champions League - 17-03-2015

0 التعليقات

AS Monaco vs Arsenal - Competition: Champions League − 2014/2015 − Round of 16 (second leg)

AS Monaco welcome Arsenal to the Stade Louis II with a commanding lead after conquering the Emirates Stadium 3:1 in dominant fashion. The Red and Whites could seemingly do no wrong on the day, as they tactically outmaneuvered the Gunners while playing with more spirit and confidence on such a grand stage. They have now won 5 of their last 7 matches in all competitions and were very comfortable in their 3:0 win over Bastia on Friday in league action. Rising star Anthony Martial bagged 2 of their 3 goals on either side of halftime, and despite his tender years he could get handed another start here in the UCL. But it has been the defence that has frustrated so many opponents this season, as the hosts have conceded just 2 total goals through 7 UCL matches in this year’s competition. Furthermore, they have allowed in just 1 goal in their last 12 competitive fixtures at the Stade Louis II, and there’s plenty of reason for optimism for their survival here. However, they would be wise not to overlook an Arsenal side that can score goals in a flurry, and in the end they could find themselves holding on for their Champions League lives. It may be important to point out that Kondogbia is questionable to play and Jeremy Toulalan is suspended, possibly leaving a gaping hole in the middle of the park.
Arsenal team refused to hang their heads after falling to a catastrophic 1:3 defeat in the first leg, instead bouncing back with 4 consecutive wins in all competitions. That stretch included a massive 2:1 road victory over Man United in the FA Cup, and after their impressive 3:0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, the Gunners will travel to France with a head of steam and a camp full of confidence. The return of Aaron Ramsey provides the Londoners with a much-needed extra goalscorer, and the Welshman was superb last time out. However, the big question mark coming into this match is Olivier Giroud, as the Frenchman enjoyed a wonderful performance over the weekend but had an abysmal display against AS Monaco in the first leg. Furthermore, he doesn’t have a good goalscoring record against the hosts (played for Montpellier in Ligue 1), and the boss must make the right decision between the Frenchman and Danny Welbeck. Wenger has seen his side come close in recent years in overturning these kind of results, as they have defeated Milan (3:0) and Bayern Munich (2:0) while also tying the German champions 1:1 last season. While all of these second-leg results ultimately eliminated the Gunners, it points to a fighting spirit in this team and they will come out with confidence on Tuesday evening. An early goal would see the nerves of the home fans spike to severe levels, and if the visitors can avoid any catastrophes at the back, they should exact some revenge here whether they manage to overturn the deficit or not.

Probable lineups:
AS Monaco: Subasic – Toure, Abdennour, Carvalho, Kurzawa – Toulalan (Fabinho), Kondogbia – Dirar, Moutinho, Ferreira-Carrasco (Martial) – Berbatov.
Arsenal: Szczesny – Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal – Coquelin, Ramsey – Sanchez, Ozil, Cazorla – Giroud.

Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid Spanish Primera Division - March 14, 2015

Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid - Competition: Spanish Primera Division

Espanyol team lost two games in a row. In the last league round the Periquitos were defeated by their table neighbours, Real Sociedad, that scored the only goal at Anoeta after a costly mistake of Espanyol’s goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla. The players from FC Barcelona had their chances but they could not find a way to break Sociedad’s defence. Espanyol managed 9 shots that evening with 4 of them on goal. In the league standings Espanyol are sitting 10th with a safe distance of 8 points over the relegation zone. Espanyol have played 13 league matches so far this season at Power8 Stadium (Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain). They have won 7 of them, drawn 3 and lost 3. Their home goal balance is 19:11 (with the overall balance of 32:37). Barcelona’s best scorers are Sergio Garcia and Christian Stuani, who have already found the way to the net 9 times in the league games each.
Atletico Madrid team are slowly losing their chances of defending the title. After last round’s draw with Valencia, Atletico are six points away from Real Madrid and seven points from leading FC Barcelona. While hosting Valencia at Estadio Vicente Calderon in Madrid, Atletico had only one thing in mind – gain the whole package of three points. Koke put his team on lead in the first half and everything looked brightly for the hosts. A late goal from Shkodran Mustafi saved the draw for Valencia. The title holders remain third. They definitely need to look behind as Valencia are just one point down. Atletico Madrid have played 12 games so far on the road in Liga 2014/2015. They have added 20 points to their standings with those away matches (6 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats). Their away goal balance is 16:13. Atletico score twice as much when playing in Madrid though. The visitors are waiting for a crucial second-leg game in Champions League where they are facing Bayer Leverkusen (the first match in Germany ended with the Germans’ 1:0 victory).

Real Madrid vs Schalke 04 Champions League 10-03-2015

Real Madrid vs FC Schalke 04
Competition: Champions League, 2014/2015 - Round of 16 (second leg)
Match date: Tuesday, 10 March 2015
Kick Off Time: 19:45 GMT
Venue: Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid, Madrid, Spain

The smooth Real Madrid engine has been running like the roaring monster we all know and admire for most of the season, however recently, their streak of good performances have been a bit tarnished. The first indication of this came in the 0-4 defeat against Atletico last month, and the defending Champions League champions are now experiencing a small crisis of form as the club has a hard time creating good attacking possibilities like before, and they have only scored one goal on penalty in the last two matches against Villarreal and Bilbao – very unusual for a Real side who averages 3 goals per match in Liga this season. In the UCL, the team has shown a constant display of good form and every opposition has been beaten, which Schalke 04 experienced in the first leg as the Spaniards won 2-0. Real Madrid looks like a serious contender to become the first club in the UCL history to win the tournament two years in a row, and the convincing campaign has been facilitated by an impervious defence, that has only allowed two goals against combined with a lethal offense including some of football’s biggest profiles led by Ronaldo. The Portuguese has once again been a goal-scoring machine, as he scores as he likes in both Spanish and European football. In Primera Division he has currently reached 30 goals in 26 matches and in UCL he has scored 6 goals in 7 matches. In recent years, Ronaldo has scored every time Real Madrid played Schalke, which has resulted in 5 goals in 3 matches. Ronaldo is an incredible goal scorer and Schalke will have hard time keeping him and the rest of the Real Madrid offense away from the score sheet on Tuesday.
FC Schalke 04’s results are not really going according to plan at the moment. The club did manage to win 3-1 against Hoffenheim on the weekend, but that was the club’s first win in 5 games and just their third win in 8 games after the German winter break. The team is having difficulties finding a continuous run of good form and especially their away game performances is problematic. In 2015, Schalke have still not won an away game and this is a general pattern of the club’s Bundesliga season where they have only managed to get 10 of their 38 points when playing away from Arena-Auf-Schalke. In UCL, the form of the team has been very inconsistent as well, and they just made it through to the round of 16 by finishing 2nd in group G, only 1 point ahead of Sporting. Last year’s knock-out battle against Real resulted in a 9-2 win on aggregate for the Spanish team and when you take a look at Schalke’s squad, it as hard to see who should deliver the surprise for them. The appointment of manager Roberto Di Matteo in October has introduced a more defensive approach, however, even though the Italian manager won the tournament with Chelsea in 2012, we are pretty confident that he does not have the tools at hand to make it through to the quarterfinals this time.

Probable lineups:
Real Madrid: Navas – Carvajal, Pepe, Varane, Marcelo – Modric, T. Kroos, Isco – Bale, C. Ronaldo, Benzema.
FC Schalke 04: Wellenreuther – Howedes, Matip, Nastasic – Uchida, Fuchs – Neustadter – Barnetta, M. Meyer – Choupo-Moting, Huntelaar.

Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid Spanish Primera Division - March 07, 2015

Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid - Spanish Primera Division
Saturday, 07/03/2015 - San Mames, Bilbao, Spain

Athletic Bilbao team may not be repeating their excellent 4th place finish from last season in La Liga, but their league form has picked up recently. They have gone unbeaten in 5 of their last 6 league matches while keeping a clean sheet in 4 of their last 5. Their 11 points over this stretch has seen them comfortably away from the relegation zone but that may not be a good thing for their chances here. Furthermore, they have been defeated by multiple goals against similar competition to Real in Barcelona (twice, 5:0 and 2:0), Atletico (4:1), Villarreal (2:0), and of course to Real Madrid themselves (5:0). It has not been what one would call a successful season for Los Leones, but Wednesday saw them comfortably dispatch Espanyol in the Copa del Ray semifinals to set up a title bout in May with Barcelona. That victory will have given them confidence for this Saturday’s seemingly-impossible task of toppling the league leaders, though with 9 losses in their last 10 La Liga meetings against Madrid, avoiding defeat on Saturday will take a monumental effort and perhaps a bit of luck for the 10th-placed hosts.
Real Madrid team faltered in their title challenge last time out, dropping 2 points out of their previous 4-point lead on Barcelona when they drew 1:1 with Villarreal. The draw not only allowed Barcelona to come back within striking distance but it also saw both Atletico and Valencia sneak back in at 7 and 8 points back, respectively. Surprisingly, it was their first draw at the Bernabeu all season in La Liga action and just the 5th time they have been held without a win through 25 league fixtures. Critics are beginning to ask questions about this team’s mental fortitude and whether Carlo Ancelotti really is the right man for the job. But the visitors can temporarily put those concerns to bed here in Bilbao against a team they have defeated in 19 of their last 21 meetings in all competitions. They have outscored Los Leones with 37 goals to just 6 conceded in their last 10 Liga meetings, claiming all 9 of their wins in this stretch by multiple-goal margins of victory. While Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez remain absent, the visitors have a full squad to call upon other than that.

Probable lineups:
Athletic Bilbao: Iraizoz – de Marcos, Etxeita, Laporte, Balenziaga – M. Rico, San Jose – M. Susaeta, Iker Muniain, Ibai Gomez – Aduriz.
Real Madrid: Casillas – Carvajal, Pepe, Varane, Marcelo – Lucas Silva, T. Kroos – Bale, Isco, C. Ronaldo – Benzema.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Capital One Cup Final - 01-03-2015

0 التعليقات

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham - Competition: Capital One Cup Final

Chelsea FC team aim for their first trophy since Jose Mourinho returned to take over the reigns once again. The Blues drew some favorable draws in their run to the semi-finals before taking on Liverpool, where they dispatched the Reds in extra time of the 2nd leg 1:0 (2:1 on aggregate) behind an Ivanovic goal. Now they have a shot at not only the trophy but also revenge against the Spurs, who beat Chelsea FC in a wild affair at White Hart Lane in their last meeting (5:3). Harry Kane had 2 goals and an assist in that match and the Zouma-Terry centre-back partnership must be wise to his sly movements. Jose Mourinho will be demanding a more assured defensive performance this time around, though his troops have admittedly struggled a bit recently with just 2 wins over their last 5 competitive fixtures. Furthermore, Nemanja Matic will be out suspended after his rash response to Ashley Barnes’ tackle last week, and things could be tough here on the favorites. However, they have earned the “favorites” label and have the stronger side on paper even in the absence of the Serbian, and the first major trophy of the English season should ultimately end up in Chelsea’s hands.
Tottenham crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday clearly with an eye set for Sunday’s title clash at Wembley Stadium. While they certainly had their chances against Fiorentina, key moments like Roberto Soldado’s completely botched 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper marred their day and ultimately cost them their European hopes. They have now failed to win any of their last 4 competitive fixtures, conceding 8 goals over this stretch for an average of 2 allowed per game. However, form typically goes out the window in a derby match and especially a title match, and the Harry Kane-led Tottenham shouldn’t be counted out. They have demonstrated their quality this season with wins over Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, and Southampton, and manager Mauricio Pochettino is clearly an intelligent manager. But the major cause for concern this weekend may not necessarily be their ability to pull off the upset but rather their inexperience. Tottenham haven’t been to a title match at Wembley since 2008 (League Cup), and none of the anticipated players in their lineup for this Sunday were in that traveling squad. They are very young and could allow nerves to get to them a bit here, and even a moment of hesitation in a game of this magnitude can cost you dearly.

Probable lineups:
Chelsea: Courtois – Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry, Azpilicueta – Ramires, Fabregas – Willian, Oscar, Hazard – Diego Costa.
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris – Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose – Bentaleb, Mason – Lamela, Dembele, Eriksen – Kane.
